When I reached out, I was really impressed by the outstanding customer support. The technician who helped me was super nice and courteous. He not only answered my question right away but also followed up with a solution in just six minutes. This kind of service is really praiseworthy, especially since the technician was on duty at 3 am while I was calling in at 3 pm.

I manage the website for a local dance studio, and when I took over in 2015, the whole domain and email were with hostmonster. Back then, the site was just a single image with an email link, which was pretty standard for the early 2000s. After a few years of manually updating the FTP client, I decided to switch the domain to GoDaddy. My client's email stayed with hostmonster without any issues. But then, in February, GoDaddy started messing things up, so we moved the website to Squarespace. Just last week, my client told me she couldn't reply to inquiry forms and was getting mailerdaemon errors. I thought about moving the whole domain to Squarespace, but when I did, her email became unreachable. A few days later, it started working again, but we still couldn't send or receive anything. It was just sitting there, not doing its job. I figured out that the MX record didn’t transfer, so I reached out to hostmonster MULTIPLE times to get it. Customer service told me I had to validate an email on file that ends in hotmail.com to get an access code.
Here’s the kicker: neither my client nor her husband has ever had a Hotmail account, as far as they know.
Now we’re stuck trying to prove ownership of the account. Customer service just keeps saying, "sorry, we can't help until the account is validated," and they won’t escalate it to a supervisor. Even when I explain the whole situation, they just repeat the same steps like I hadn’t already done them. At this point, we’re looking to close the hostmonster account and move the email to Google. I’ve already downloaded the email data to my computer, but I haven’t heard back from the ownership team. This is really hurting the business, and honestly, I’m thinking about reaching out to the FCC or whoever else to let them know that hostmonster is scamming folks. It feels like they haven’t updated their processes in over a decade, if not longer, and they’ve outsourced to people who clearly don’t care about the company’s reputation. I genuinely hope this company goes under soon because the owner/CEO doesn’t seem to give a hoot about client satisfaction. I’ve been a web designer with some development experience for many years, and I’ve NEVER faced such awful issues with a hosting service. It’s absolutely ridiculous.

Dealing with customer service or tech support in 2023 can really test your patience. Sometimes, they seem either too smart for their own good or downright condescending. But then, you meet a real gem like the guy I spoke to at Host Monster! He was super patient with me (I still like using a pencil) and sorted out all my problems. I've been sticking with Host Monster for about 15 years, and this is exactly why. Big shoutout to them for their fantastic work—keep it up, guys!

"I'd rate the rep I talked to five stars, but I'm not thrilled with the pricing and tech."
I had to get my website renewed in less than a day, but the price was set to double. Sadly, my site had been partially shut down because of a hacking issue a while back, and the HostMonster techs couldn't help me with that. I was pretty lost on what to do, but my biggest worry was making sure the site wouldn't get wiped out if I missed the renewal. Luckily, Jennifer from Customer Service let me know that the site would stay up for a month. I get that these policies aren't personal favors, but Jennifer was super helpful, and I really appreciate her support. It's a bummer that other parts of HostMonster's web hosting don't measure up.

"Hostmonster's customer service is top-notch, but their overall service needs work."
I'm giving Hostmonster four stars instead of just two because their phone support is truly fantastic. Every time I reach out to their tech support team, I get helpful advice that usually leads to a fix. Just today, Irish D. helped me out and sorted my issue in no time. I stick with this company because I can easily call and chat with a real person who can sort things out quickly, and they're always super friendly. That said, I really hope they step up their tech game by keeping things updated and improving their server scans for spammers, so I don’t have to ring them up as often. Also, it would be great if they could get their legacy email system working properly, since a lot of us prefer it over Gsuite when it’s functioning. If their tech services were as great as their staff, this would definitely be the best company to work with.
